"Between 2002 and 2006 MarCon have delivered to the NW Region of the U.K. Environment Agency MarGIS™estuary models for the Mersey Estuary, the Ribble Estuary, the Duddon Estuary and Morecambe Bay. These modelling systems have proved to be robust, easy to use and valuable management tools. They have been heavily used by the Agency to deliver its statutory review of consents obligations associated with the Habitats Directive and to identify sewerage discharges requiring improvements to improve bathing and shellfish water quality. For example:

1) The Mersey Estuary MarGIS™ model has identified that reductions in the load of ammonia discharged from two Wastewater Treatment works is required to protect the Mersey Estuary Special Protection Area (SPA); and,

2) Evidence using the Ribble Estuary MarGIS™ model was presented at a 3 week long public inquiry held at Southport during December 2007. This evidence helped confirm the need for a £95M sewerage improvement scheme in Preston Town Centre."
