MarGIS™ MarGIS™ is an exciting, user-friendly management tool that saves time and money by integrating existing numerical models into a GIS framework. It has been specifically designed for use by non-modellers to efficiently undertake water quality model simulations, execute model runs, and visualise and report on simulation results within a single environment. MarGIS™ has been adopted by the Northwest Region of the United Kingdom Environment Agency as ‘best practice’ in fulfilling their obligations under the EU Habitats Directive, and is currently used on the Mersey, Ribble and Severn estuaries and in Morecambe Bay. Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) has commissioned MarCon to expand the core functionality of MarGIS™ to investigate the aquaculture carrying capacity potential of a number of bays around Ireland, and again to develop a decision support tool for the management of the national inshore shellfisheries spawning grounds. MarGIS™ is a flexible, user-friendly application. It operates within the ESRI ArcView environment and includes a detailed on-line user manual. For an online demonstration of the MarGIS aquaculture management system developed for BIM please select 'MarGIS™ Demo' from the menu bar at the top of the page.
